The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Awards $50,000 to Washington County for Economic Development Plan

Baltimore, MD (May 15, 2012) – The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) today announced that it has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Hagerstown-Washington County Industrial Foundation to help develop an Economic Development Strategic Plan (EDSP). The plan, expected to be completed by November, will help expand Washington County’s economic base by guiding smart investments, attracting new businesses and creating jobs to ensure high-paying jobs for future generations.

Two new incentive programs help to make way for new office building

The center of what once was the Martin’s Food Market at Fountainhead Plaza sat empty for more than three years before it was demolished this winter to make way for a new free-standing office building that could open by the end of this year.

The space could have continued in its boarded-up status for another year if it weren’t for two new incentive programs that Washington County approved in recent months, said Asad Ghattas, who owns Fountainhead Plaza north of Hagerstown.
