Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) Space Systems successfully completed a "captive carry test" of its full-scale Dream Chaser orbital crew vehicle Tuesday, marking a new milestone in the company's effort to develop transportation for astronauts to low Earth orbit and the International Space Station.

Mikulski (D-Md.) today announced that she secured $43 million to expand the manufacture of Multirole Enforcement Aircraft (MEA) used to protect our borders by the Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Air and Marine Program.  Further funding the manufacturing of this important aircraft will create or save hundreds of jobs in Northern Maryland.

The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development Awards $50,000 to Washington County for Economic Development Plan

Baltimore, MD (May 15, 2012) – The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) today announced that it has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Hagerstown-Washington County Industrial Foundation to help develop an Economic Development Strategic Plan (EDSP). The plan, expected to be completed by November, will help expand Washington County’s economic base by guiding smart investments, attracting new businesses and creating jobs to ensure high-paying jobs for future generations.

Money to market Hagerstown airport tops county priorities for grant money

Money to develop a marketing plan for Hagerstown Regional Airport will be the county’s top priority for grant funds from the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Washington County Board of Commissioners decided Tuesday.

The project is one of six the commissioners agreed to submit for consideration for an anticipated $1.3 million to be distributed between three Western Maryland counties for fiscal 2013.

The county is seeking $75,000 in ARC funds for the marketing plan, or half of the $150,000 estimated cost.

Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Wind Tunnel Tests Completed On Dream Chaser Orbital Crew Vehicle

Wind tunnel testing of a scale model of the Dream Chaser orbital crew vehicle has been completed in the Oran W. Nicks Low Speed Wind Tunnel at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. Aerodynamic data generated from this testing, coupled with data from computer simulations, will define the characteristics of the Dream Chaser lifting body vehicle during the approach and landing phase of flight. This information will assist Sierra Nevada Corporation engineers in preparing for the Dream Chaser vehicle’s first free flight test scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
