The Port of Baltimore is ranked in the top 15 for overall annual tonnage and value of cargo. The Port of Virginia boasts the largest intermodal facility on the east coast. Both ports are accessible via highway and rail.

The Port of Baltimore is closer to the Midwest than any other Atlantic seaport and is less than a 90-minute drive from Washington County. The Virginia Inland Port (VIP) at Front Royal, VA (48 miles south of Hagerstown) serves the region as an interface between truck and rail for the transport of ocean-going containers to and from the Port of Norfolk, VA. The VIP is a U.S. Customs recognized port of entry.
