Distinguished guest readers present Sun, Seed and Soil
Hagerstown, Md. (April 15, 2014) – The Washington County Department of Business Development, Agricultural Business Development, is pleased to announce an unveiling and ribbon cutting ceremony for theWashington County Farm Bureau’s Ag Literacy Mobile Unit scheduled for April 22, 2014, 9:30 a.m. at Bester Elementary School.
The goal of the Farm Bureau Ag Literacy Mobile Unit is to educate youth on the importance of agriculture and the need for its sustainability. Children need to know where their food comes from and the unit is designed to make this connection for elementary school children.
The Ag Literacy Mobile Unit was recently redesigned by students at the Washington County Technical High School under the guidance of carpentry educator, Mr. Farrari and electrical educator, Mr. Secrest.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, students in kindergarten through third grade will be treated to a story-time reader showcasing the book Sun, Seed and Soil by author Chris Peterson. Activities will conclude with each student planting a flower to take home provided by the Washington County Technical High School environmental horticulture and landscape design educator Mr. Frame and his FFA students.
