"We're extremely proud to have our first My Biz Idea program graduate," said Kassie Lewis, director, Washington County Department of Business Development. "We worked closely with Elizabeth to provide business counseling in partnership with the Maryland Small Business Development Center and we now have our first brick and mortar example of a business idea brought to life."
A program developed by the Washington County DBD, focused on encouraging entrepreneurial spirit, My Biz Idea leverages Maryland Small Business Development Center business counseling services available to help get new business ideas and concepts to the marketplace. Launched in 2015, the program included a direct mail, television and digital campaign with a six question survey used to focus in on what tools entrepreneurs really need to succeed.
"With support from Washington County DBD and the Maryland Small Business Development, my idea went from in-home catering service to restaurant space right in the heart of Hagerstown," said Elizabeth Vanterpool, manager and co-owner, Anegada Delights. "I'm looking forward to continuing to grow my clientele and sharing unique cuisine that Anegada can offer the region."
Lebert, chef and co-owner of Anegada Delights, is from the beautiful paradise island of Anegada located in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). He inherited his love and passion for cooking from his maternal grandfather who was a creative and culinary mastermind. For several years Chef Lee cooked and catered several events for friends and family which then motivated him to share his talent with the world through starting a family catering business.
"Downtown Hagerstown welcomes Anegada Delights as our newest City Center restaurant," said Jill Frick, Director of Community and Economic Development for the City of Hagerstown. "We commend the work of the Washington County Department of Business Development and the Small Business Development Center in fostering entrepreneurship, which help this business grow from home-based catering to a full restaurant."
