Department of Business Development to be recognized at MEDA Annual Conference Awards Banquet
Hagerstown, Md. (April 14, 2015) – “Washington County ♥’s My Business,” a marketing and business appreciation campaign developed by the Washington County Department of Business Development (DBD), will receive the Judges’ Award from the Maryland Economic Development Association.
Launched in September 2014, DBD staff and the Economic Development Commission (EDC) connected with 6,900 registered employers through direct mail and a window cling with one message: “Washington County ♥’s my business.”
During Maryland’s Economic Development Week (October 26 – 31) businesses were encouraged to display a window cling in their store fronts while the DBD Prize Patrol scouted the clings and compiled a list of businesses to surprise. With proclamations of appreciation, sweet treats, balloons and other valuable resources in hand, EDC members and DBD staff conducted 26 business visits in one day.
“Our goal is to constantly remind businesses that we are thankful for the employment they provide our citizens,” said Kassie Lewis, director, Washington County Department of Business Development. “We also want businesses to realize, we’re here to help.”
As a result of the campaign, the County’s project liaison generated three potential business expansion project leads and garnered more than 500,000 media impressions, introducing businesses to the capabilities and resources of the Department of Business Development.
The MEDA Awards will be presented at the MEDA Awards Banquet on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort in Cambridge, Maryland as part of the 2015 MEDA Annual Conference.
