“Celebration of Business” an Annual Appreciation Event

The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC) will honor the local business and industrial community Tuesday, April 17 at the Celebration of Business 2012.This event, by invitation only, will be held at Fountain Head Country Club in Hagerstown, Maryland, beginning with a VIP Reception hosted by Volvo Powertrain at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner and the program.

“The annual Celebration of Business is the EDC’s opportunity to recognize and thank local companies for doing business in Washington County,” said Timothy R. Troxell, CEcD, executive director of the EDC. “Because local businesses provide good jobs for our citizens and support important events and quality of life initiatives, we always enjoy this opportunity to thank them for all they do to make Washington County a better place to live, work and play.”  Below is the list of 2012 honorees and the event sponsors.

Keynote Speaker:
The keynote speaker for this year’s event will be J. Randall “Randy” Thompson, president & CEO of Thompson’s Gas & Electric Service, Inc. which is headquartered in Hagerstown, Maryland. Mr. Thompson spent his entire life in Washington County.  Upon graduation from Washington County Public Schools, Mr. Thompson joined the United States Marine Corps and attended Shepherd University where he earned a Bachelor of Science.  He subsequently attended the Frostburg University MBA program.

Mr. Thompson served on the Board of Directors of the Washington County Community Foundation, Meritus Enterprises, and Family Heritage Trust Company. He was the Co-Chair of the Meritus Health Systems' capital campaign for the new hospital. In 2009, he was awarded the prestigious Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and in 2011 was named CEO of the Year for Baltimore’s Smart CEO Magazine.

The EDC will honor the attendees as well as more than 40 businesses who have reached milestones in their number of years of conducting business in Washington County. This year’s honorees include the following:
