New Business to Hold Official Grand Opening in Hancock; Blue Goose Fruit Market and Bakery to Host Ribbon Cutting Friday Dec. 16 at 10am
(Hancock, MD) -- There's a new business in Hancock, Maryland, and it's already attracting attention and rave reviews.
The Blue Goose Fruit Market and Bakery is located at 557 East Main Street in Hancock. The new fruit market and bakery has people talking about its pies and other baked goods.
A grand opening ceremony is set for 10:00am on Friday December 16.
According to owner Penny Pittman, "We're open seven days per week, from 8 AM until 6 PM. We're amazed at the number of people who said they missed this sort of business in Hancock, and we're very glad to have built this new business from the ground up."
The store is on the location of the former Hepburn Orchards and Fruit Market, which closed several years ago. The building was sold at auction. The Pittmans purchased the property, and spent a significant amount of money and effort into tearing down the old building, and constructing a terrific new fruit market and bakery. "It was a long construction project, and we wanted it to be 'just right,' so that travelers from the interstate, and from the Western Maryland Rail Trail and C&O Canal Towpath, could enjoy quality baked goods, refreshments, and fruit," said Pittman.
The buzz on the internet and elsewhere, involves amazement over the huge selection of pies. "The bakery features 30 different flavors of pies, plus cookies, rolls, breads, muffins, apple cider donuts, pumpkin and red velvet rolls," said Penny Pittman. "Our baking staff is already hard-pressed keeping up with demand - especially now that the bakery is in full operation in time for the holidays."
The Blue Goose Fruit Market and Bakery also has fresh seasonal fruits all year-round. The business has pledged to feature locally-grown fruits whenever available.
Custom made gift and fruit baskets are also available at Blue Goose, and Penny Pittman says that one of the favorite items are the old fashioned candies and Amish fudge. "We also have Jake & Amos and McCutcheon's preserves and jellies. We have gourmet foods from Stonewall Kitchens and Robert Rothchild Farms, and we are very proud to feature Pure Maple Syrup manufactured right here in Western Maryland."
The Blue Goose Fruit Market and Bakery also has Burnt Cabins pancake mixes and Draper's honey, and Pennsylvania Dutch Birch Beer, and Ciders and Spices. The gift shop has custom designed florals. "In the hot summer months, cyclists will love the Hershey's hand dipped ice cream," said Pittman.
Randy and Penny Pittman are local Hancock business owners, who are committed to the continual improvement of the Town of Hancock.
