Hagerstown, MD – January 6, 2012
Lehigh Phoenix, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Visant Corporation, has recently announced the expansion of its state of the art complex in Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland. The company, which originally relocated to Washington County in 1992, is a leading provider of book components and short run books for the trade and educational publishing segments.
The expansion will add an additional 28,000 square feet to their existing 180,000 square foot facility. According to Lehigh Phoenix, these improvements will accommodate additional equipment and capabilities into the Hagerstown location, including to facilitate its continued production of heavily illustrated, multi-color and other short run books, which production will be relocating from Rockaway, NJ. The expansion and transition from Rockaway is expected to be completed by mid-April.
Company spokesman Brian Keck, VP Finance stated that expansion and integration allows us to further diversify our capabilities in Hagerstown while capitalizing on our proven technology and service expertise.
The project received “Fast Track” designation for plan review and permitting from Washington County officials. Timothy R. Troxell, Executive Director of the County’s Economic Development Commission, stated “The recent resurgence in manufacturing is a good sign for our local economy. Having great companies like Lehigh Phoenix further invest in our community speaks volumes about our pro-business environment.” Troxell went on to say “Timely review and permitting was necessary to help Lehigh Phoenix realize its time critical objective of having the addition completed by Spring 2012.”
“Lehigh Phoenix’s decision to expand and add jobs speaks volumes about the highly-skilled workforce, strategic location and supportive business climate that Maryland and Washington County offer to companies,” said DBED Secretary Christian S. Johansson. “We were particularly pleased to work with our partners in Washington County to support this project, which will bring additional jobs to Hagerstown and help grow the local economy.”
