Parker Plastics, Inc., Doubles its Hagerstown, MD Operation in Six Years

Company Hosts a Board of County Commissioners/Economic Development Commission Plant Visit on November 22nd

Hagerstown, MD (November 29, 2011) - Parker Plastics, Inc., a privately-held company that manufactures custom packaging and containers, is expanding its current operations located in the Baer-Mac building on 105 Enterprise Lane in the Washington County Business Park.  In August, the company occupied an additional 30,000 sf of space – providing the facility a total of 93,000 sf. 
 
Company History in Washington County
In 2005, Parker Plastics, Inc.’s headquarters representative James (Jim) Brown was seeking an expansion location along the I-81 corridor. The Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC) assisted Parker Plastics, Inc., in locating into the 43,000 sf Baer-Mac building. The company utilized the New Jobs Tax Credit program and received $1,000 for every new job created. 
 
After locating in Hagerstown, Brown became the Plant Manager and has since successfully helped the operation double its size. 
 
Increasing Production Adds Jobs
 Since 2005, Parker Plastics, Inc., has achieved the following in Washington County:

  • Increased its product line from 45 to 100 types of bottles and containers for the food and beverage industry.
  • Doubled its workforce from 25 to 51 employees and the company continues to hire skilled workers. 
  • Utilized seven specialized manufacturing machines representing an increased investment of approximately $4 million.
  • Current production is in excess of 50,000,000 containers annually.
  • More than doubled its space from two expansions.

 

Reasons to Continue Doing Business in Washington County
During the November 22ndvisit, Brown cited Hagerstown’s strategic location as a prime reason the company continues to effectively serve customers along the East coast from Florida to Maine. Due to the logistical advantages, the company recently moved a large portion of its water bottle production from Mexico to Hagerstown.  In addition, Parker Plastics, Inc., utilizes the strong network of area vendors that support the manufacturing industry, which helps to positively impact the local economy.  Brown noted that other strong characteristics of the community include its general helpfulness and loyal workforce.
