Join the DBD and STARTUP Maryland for the Pitch Across Maryland tour and pitch your business idea to local, rional and state investors. STARTUP Maryland strives to connect innovation communities, startups and ramp-ups with access to capital, stakeholders and revenue opportunities. Are you interested?   • Bring your business idea.
  • Register to pitch for FREE by September 13.
  • Attend a coaching workshop (or 2 or 3) to perfect your pitch. Register by September 11.
  • Pitch your idea in 3 minutes on September 25 in the STARTUP Maryland bus video studio.

The Washington County DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS Development is pleased to open nominations for the 2013 Washington County Farm of the Year.

Designed to recognize and honor the rich agricultural heritage embedded in our County, The Washington County Maryland Farm of the Year Award application is open to all farms located primarily in Washington County Maryland on 5 or more acres of land. Hagerstown, Md. (May 13, 2013) – The University of Maryland Extension, Washington County Office and the Washington County Department of Business Development (DBD) invite you to join the Jams and Jellies Grow it, Eat it, Preserve it Canning Workshop scheduled for May 29, 2013 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 the Washington County Agricultural Education Center.

From the experienced canner to a novice in the kitchen, this workshop is open to anyone interested in learning more about food preservation. Topics covered during the class include types of jellied products that can be made at home, the ingredients needed, the necessary equipment and supplies and the basic steps of water bath canning. Class attendees will also get hands on experience in the kitchen preparing and canning a jellied product.

The cost of this workshop is $35 per person and advance registration is required. Checks can be made payable to Washington County EAC and payment must accompany registration. Those interested in attending should register by May 24 via mail or in person at the University of Maryland Washington County Extension office located at 7303 Sharpsburg Pike in Boonsboro, Md.

Boonsboro, MD (August 14, 2012) – On Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 12:00 p.m., the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission (EDC) will announce the winner of the 2012 Washington County Maryland Farm of the Year. 

Washington County,Marylandhas an abundance of rich agricultural lands filled with products and commodities that support our community, state and nation.  The Washington County Farm of the Year Award is designed to recognize and honor this rich heritage.  During this special event, the EDC will recognize one outstanding farm and farm family that exemplifies the heritage of agriculture inWashingtonCounty.  


Award Criteria

The award is based upon numerous criteria including production, conservation, preservation, community involvement, and dedication to farming and agriculture.  The 2012 winning farm will showcase excellence in agriculture and promote a greater understanding of the challenges faced by today’s farmers.  Press and Media are invited to attend this event.
