Celebrate Small Business Week with Local Companies

Hagerstown, Md. (May 5, 2015) –  Small businesses like Blondy & Company, Bonnie’s at the Red Byrd, Douglas Motors, Nutter’s Ice Cream and Water Street Financial contribute to the economic vitality and quality of life in Washington County every day. As part of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week we are saying thank you.

To multiply the thanks, we are encouraging residents to visit small businesses across the County during the first week of May.  Organizations like these and countless others support athletic teams, host community fundraisers and donate hours of services and goods that positively impact our neighborhoods many times over.

Nominated by town mayors, the following organizations and others will be recognized by the Department of Business Development during the May 12, Washington County Board of County Commissioners meeting.

  • Blondy & Company – Committed to helping customers relax, Blondy participates as an outstanding business in our community promoting how great it is to live and work here.
  • Bonnie’s at the Red Byrd – A long standing fixture in Keedysville, home cooking is the calling card of this establishment. Owner, Bonnie Hawker is an avid supporter of a number of community activities and events.
  • Douglas Motors – With more than 30 employees locally, Douglas Motors actively engages in community events including sponsorship of Little League teams.
  • Nutter’s Ice Cream – Since 1996, owner Debbie Nutter has made a name for herself by providing quality ice cream at reasonable prices. The business donates ice cream to town picnics, school events, library functions and other worthy causes.
  • Tiger's Eye Benefits Consulting – Hagerstown's, Maryland’s only locally owned and operated professional corporation devoted to employee benefits consulting and administration.
  • Water Street Financial – In support of local economic development John Krumpotich and team renovated a Smithsburg building into a unique and modern office space.
