Founded for its natural beauty and sparkling springs
Located 12 miles west of Hagerstown on US Highway 40, Clear Spring is the peaceful home to about 350 people. Well-known attractions such as the Fort Frederick State Park, Plumb Grove Mansion, and Camp Harding County Park bring many to Clear Spring. Also, close by is the Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg, PA. For outdoor enthusiasts, Whitetail Resort has over 19 ski and snowboard trails, a golf course with a mountainous terrain, and Dusty Wissmath’s Fly Fishing School & Guide Service.
The town of Clear Spring was founded by Martin Myers in 1821. Myers, impressed by the natural beauty of the countryside and a nearby spring of sparkling water, envisioned a town which could grow and prosper. Clear Spring is home to the C & O Canal, a historic canal built in 1828 to link the nation's capital with the Ohio River.
